Our eyes – Why so important?
None of our sensory organs is as important as the eye. No other sensory organ transmits so much information to us. We perceive
approx. 90% of sensory impressions with the eye. An no other sensory organ can be so easily injured.
As a result we have to protect it, particularly on the job, against:
– mechanical effects (dust, grains, chips, flakes)
– optical effects (UV rays, light glare)
– chemical effects (vapours, gases, lyes, smoke, acids)
– thermal effects (heat, cold, glowing particles)
– specific effects (laser rays, X-rays, electric arcs)
Standard EN 166 lays down the requirements for the personal eye protection, however not what has to be worn when.
